Affascinante per la sua storia e per la sua gradevolezza, l'Italia comincia a suscitare qualche interesse, o quanto meno qualche curiosità, sotto il profilo politico e costituzionale. Il che smentisce pregiudizio, o comunque luoghi comuni, evidentemente accreditati più da "professori italiani" che da "studenti americani".

Fascinating for its history and beauties, Italy finally starts to arouse interest, or at least curiosity, from a political and constitutional point of view, which refutes common places, if not prejudices held more by "Italian professors" rather than "American students".

L'Italia è un paese sorprendente con una vasta storia e ricca cultura, per non parlare degli scenari mozzafiato. Amo praticamente tutto di quello che in questo paese ho visto durante la mia visita. Spero che l'Italia continuerà a prosperare come centro culturale d'Europa e continui a conservare i suoi monumenti e la cultura nazionale. Quale sede di una delle prime democrazie, il Parlamento italiano sembra avere una posizione ferma riguardo a democrazia e diritti umani. Tutte le informazioni che ho raccolto con questa esperienza mi rimarranno impresse per sempre, sia quelle riguardanti il Pantheon che quelle sulla struttura del Parlamento.

Italy is an amazing country filled with a vast history and rich culture, not to mention breathtaking views. I love almost every aspect of this country so far on my visit. I hope that Italy will continue to prosper as the cultural centre of Europe and continue to preserve its national monuments and culture. As home to one of the first democracies, the Italian Parliament seems to hold strong views on democracy and human rights. All the information I have gained from this experience will last a lifetime, whether it is about the Pantheon or the structure of the Parliament.

Da quanto finora ho appreso sull'Italia e il suo modello di governo, è chiaro che il paese ha fatto grandi passi avanti. Sembra che fino a 25-50 anni fa l'Italia abbia "combattuto" con se stessa per assicurare la sua unità. Guardando al suo sviluppo negli ultimi 150 anni, penso che il futuro potrà essere roseo.

From what I have learned so far in Italy and its government it is clear that Italy has come a long way. It seems that up until these last 25 or 50 years, Italy has "fought" with itself in securing its unity. I feel that its future looks bright based on its development over these last 150 years.

Un paese ricco e democratico che rimane complesso come sempre ma molto più attento alle sfide. Una fisionomia demografica in evoluzione. Una grande occasione per avere esperienze dirette ed ascoltare informazioni interessantissime. Grazie per la vostra attenzione ed il tempo che ci avete dedicato.

Avendo studiato la storia sociopolitica dell'Italia, trovo interessante ed entusiasmante il fatto che questa grande nazione stia celebrando il 150 anni della sua unità. È chiaro che l'Italia ha superato con successo periodi di grande difficoltà diventando il grande paese che è oggi. Con la forte cultura ed incredibile storia dell'area, è chiaro anche perché questa nazione sia tanto forte.

As I've been learing about the sociopolitical history of Italy, I find it both inspirational and exciting that this great nation will be celebrating 150 years of unity. It is clear that Italy has risen successfully from several states of turmoil becoming the great country that it is today. With the strong culture and amazing history present in the region it is clearly this nation is so strong.

Questa è stata la più bella esperienza della mia vita finora. Gli Italiani sono così spensierati e vitali e penso talvolta che a New York manchi questa vivacità. Mi piace la cultura e il modo di vivere della gente. Sembra che tutto sia più libero, aperto, leggero e rilassato rispetto al luogo da cui provengo io. Non c'è così tanta pressione nel vivere quotidiano. Penso che le persone si prendano più tempo per apprezzare e godere la vita qui, mentre gli Americani fanno tutto di corsa, senza prestare grande attenzione e, senza rendersene conto, molto tempo è già passato senza riflessione. Amo l'Italia!

So far, this has been the best experience of my life. Italy is so carefree and lively spirited and sometimes New York can lack such vivacious qualities. I love the culture and the way people live. Its just seems more free, open, light and relaxed than where I come from. Not as such preassure in peoples day to day lives. I think people take more time to appreciate and enjoy life here, whereas Americans do everything very quickly without much care and before you know it, much time has passed without reflection. I love Italy.

La storia italiana è estremamente interessante. Soprattutto il periodo dell'Impero romano, che fu l'entità territoriale più potente del tempo. L'Italia ha sempre dimostrato di essere un forza trainante nell'Unione europea e sarebbe interessante vedere come si andranno avanti le cose a seguito dei prossimi sviluppi dell'economia mondiale. Vorrei sapere come le politiche dell'Italia a sostegno dell'immigrazione avranno riflessi sull'identità nazionale e come le preoccupazioni della gente ne condizioneranno il proseguimento. Nell'esperienza avuta sin qui, ho notato che vi è un gran numero di immigrati a Roma e sono rimasto sorpreso di vedere come realmente appare l'Italia. Prima di venire qui mi aspettavo di vedere una consistente maggioranza di italiani, ma in effetti ce ne sono meno di quanti credessi. Forse ciò è dovuto alla zona in cui siamo alloggiati, per cui mi piacerebbe vedere altre città e i rispettivi abitanti.

The history of Italy is exstremely interesting. Especially with the Roman Empire and how it was once the most powerfu country of its time. Italy has since proved to be a major force within the European Union and it will be interesting to see how things will shape up after the world economy continues to unfold. I would like to know how the policies of Italy supporting immigration will affect the national identity and how the concerns of the people will affect the continuation of its support? With my experiences I have noticed that there is in fact a large number of migrants throughout Rome and it has surpriced my view of how Italy actually is. Prior to coming here I expected there to be a certain number of italians and in fact there is less than I expected. This may be because of the area that we are located so I would like to see more cities and its people.

Prima di venire in Italia pensavo molte cose fossero come in America. Venendo qui mi ero fatto l'idea che avrei trovato una società con una prevalente componente borghese, splendidi paesaggi, monumenti incredibili, una gran varietà di persone. Ed è esattamente ciò che ho trovato. Il cibo, il vino, le persone in Italia hanno una tal vita e vitalità che è stato un piacere vivere da romano nell'ultima settimana di questa mia permanenza di un mese. Una cosa che non immaginavo è il caotico sistema politico. È sorprendente come tanti partiti politici possano lavorare assieme e varare leggi significative in un paese che una volta era tanto diviso, culturalmente, economicamente e geograficamente. L'Italia ha fatto passi da gigante dalla creazione della Repubblica nel 1946 e la ratifica della Costituzione, il 1° gennaio 1948. P.S. Adoro il gelato italiano!

Before I came in Italy I thought it was much like America. I expected a large middle class, beautiful scenery, breathtaking monuments, a large diversity of people. When I came here, this is exactly what I saw. The food, wine and people of Italy have such life and vitality, it was a pleasure to live like a roman for the past week of my one mounth stay. One thing I didn't except was the caotic political party system. It's amazing to see that so many parties can work together and actually accomplish meaningful legislation in a country that was once so divided cultural, economically and geographically. Italy has come a long way since the formation of the Republic in 1946 and ratification of the Constitution on January 1, 1948. P.S. I love the gelato in Italy!

150 anni dopo la sua unificazione, l'Italia sembra essere una paese molto diversificato e proiettato in avanti. Si sono approvate leggi che contrastano, con buoni risultati, fenomeni quali l'abuso di droga ed il terrorismo interno e internazionale. Mantiene, inoltre, rapporti positivi con altre potenza mondiali e pare disposta a fare altri passi in avanti per garantire la pace nel mondo.

150 years after its unification, Italy seems to be a very diversified forward thinking country. The government has implemented legislation that proactively combats the problems currently being faced such as drug use and domestic terrorist/international terrorist threats and seen much success. It also maintains a positive relationship with other world powers and is willing to go one step further to help guarantee global peace.

Penso sia interessante vedere come in Italia esista una miriade di partiti politici, ognuno con un numero considerevole di sostenitori. Ciò è molto diverso da quanto siamo abituati a vedere in America, dal momento che da noi in pratica sono solo due i partiti politici sostenuti dai relativi elettori. Inoltre mi affascina il fatto che così tanti italiani siano coinvolti politicamente e, soprattutto, così informati. Sembra che l'interesse per la politica sia molto elevato qui, che sia una delle priorità nazionali. Ciò è molto importante per poter avere un governo che davvero rappresenti la gente.

I think its interesting to see how there are a myriad of political parties formed in Italy, where each has a good amount of supporters. This is very different from what we are used to in America, as to the most part, we have two main political parties that are supported by citizens. It is also quite fascinating to see how many people not only take part in politics here, but how many people are well informed citizens of their country here. It seems that there is much interest in politics and one of the prioritiesof Italian life. This is very important to have in order to have a government truly representative of the people.

Mi ha un po' sorpreso il fatto che il Parlamento italiano presenti tante similitudini con il Congresso statunitense per forma e procedure, sebbene pare che vi siano più possibilità per i cittadini italiani, rispetto agli americani, di dire la loro su alcune scelte politiche, dal momento che noi non votiamo le leggi federali. Si può dire, in generale, che l'Italia è un paese affascinante con un patrimonio storico a cui io non sono abituata e mi meraviglia che qui la gente si imbatta ogni giorno in quelle che per noi sono icone storiche senza apparentemente farvi caso.

 I was a bit surprised by how similar the Italian Parliament is to the US Congress in procedure and form. Though there appears to be more opportunity fot the people of Italy to have a saing on some policies than in the US, as we don't vote on federals laws. In general, Italy is a fascinating place with a depth of history that I am not accustomed to. It seems so strange to me that people see major historical icons everyday and appear to not be phased by it.

Trovo interessante che vi siano stati tanti cambi di governo nel corso degli anni, con governi, appunto, non molto stabili. Tuttavia non considero questo necessariamente un difetto, poiché ritengo che possa essere un modo per ovviare al problema di governi che non operano bene. Credo che l'Italia, abbia fatto molti progressi per essere una nazione giovane. Ritengo che questi progressi siano stati molto rapidi e che il Paese sia stato in grado di trarre lezione dagli errori del passato per migliorare le cose nel presente e nel futuro.

I find interesting how the government had changed so much over the years and has not been very stable. However I don't see this necessarily as a negative thing, because I believe that by doing this you don't get stuck with a certain form of government that does not work very well. I believe that for being such a young nation Italy has come a very long way. I believe that it has been moving fast through the years and that it is able to learn from the past mistakes in order to make for the better in both the present and the future.

Visitando l'Italia ho avuto finora un'esperienza incredibile, sia da un punto di vista pratico che accademico. La cosa che ho trovato più interessante della vita politica italiana è che ogni singolo voto conta. E, a prescindere da quanti cambiamenti l'Italia abbia subito, rimane sempre un paese unito e democratico. Sono enormemente grato per la possibilità che mi è stata data di visitare l'Italia e apprezzo il tempo che il Senato ci ha dedicato per informarci in modo approfondito sul sistema italiano. L'Italia è così ricca di storia ed io sono felice di aver partecipato a questa esperienza formativa.

So far I have had an incredible experience visiting Italy, I have learned so much from both a hands-on and accademic perspective. The part I found most interesting about the Italian government is that each vote counts! And no matter how many changes Italy has experienced it still remains a united and democratic country. I am so thankful for this opportunity to visit Italy and I appreciate the time the Senate has taken to engage with us and inform us on a deeper level about the government. Italy is so rich in history I am so happy that I can be a part of this enriching experience.

In America è diffuso il preconcetto secondo cui l'Italia sarebbe un paese vecchio. Da paese relativamente giovane, invece, ha visto svariati cambiamenti. Negli ultimi decenni è passato attraverso monarchia e fascismo per approdare ad una repubblica parlamentare. Anche in economia vi sono stati progressi, con la trasformazione da paese agricolo ad industriale. Ora è uno dei paesi maggiormente industrializzati del mondo. Come americana, risulta interessante anche il sistema di governo: i vari partiti politici e la rappresentanza proporzionale sono due aspetti che fanno comprendere a chi studi l'Italia diversi tipi di democrazia. Come americana è da apprezzare la cultura italiana, così diversa dalla nostra. In Italia c'è molto da imparare ed esplorare!

It is a misconception among Americans that Italy is an old country. As a relatively young country, it has gone through many changes. For example, the government has trasformed in the past 150 years from a Monarchy to Fascist to a Parliamentary Republic. The economy has also made vast improvements from an agricultural country to an industrial country. Now it is one of the worlds most industrialized places. The government itself is also interesting to learn about as American. The many different political parties as well as proportional representation are two aspects that allow those who learn about Italy to understand different democracies. Italys diverse culture is one to be appreciated as an American. There is much to learn and explore in Italy!
